A holistic psychiatrist with a very cautious approach to medication. I have used it when needed and desired but not as a first line treatment if patient open to other psychotherapeutic interventions. I am only doing combined psychotherapy and medication if needed so have developed expertise in a variety of psychotherapies which I try to match to patients needs. I am recently deepening my skills in psychodynamic psychotherapy to try to better address underlying personality disorders which are often treated ineffectively with medications and ECT because treatment refractory and not sufficiently responsive to DBT and skills which help but not sufficiently.
With manic psychosis I find I can often taper meds very low and use PRN as long as I don’t expose patient to antidepressants.
